I find that many mornings this week I awake after dreaming of boats, the coast, and sailors.

There was a boat, a sloop hull with no mast, and no tiller being docked by a man and a dog in terribly rough weather. I was on another vessel looking on with horror. I guess he steered by hugging the rudder post? There was one of gathering sailors up throughout a town to go sailing. I found some in the library, some at city hall (which had a trail in the desert leading out the back through one specific door) some outside just lounging in the grass. A morning of a busy harbor and commercial fishing traffic and equiptment. And This morning involved sailors living in my attic, getting ready to see a Clearwater play that I had written, but failed somehow to land the lead creature roll. She got to wear a feather boa headress and dance about the stage. Samantha was wearing blue mascara, eye shadow and liner, complementing nicely her blue bodysuit.

No different from waking life, really.

Anything, anything for my most beautiful and wonderful Julie. In fact, have been tempted in the past, but due to the organization of my mind, topics, etc. felt a little wrong about creating a new topic that was really the same as the old, but a request is a request and I am glad for it.

Excuse me while I refresh this morning's supply of coffee... Yum, hot and nourshing.

Returning to town after a 2-week stint away from it is more fun than just living here. Suddenly it is all that much more special. Even Kharacters, the bar of last night's choice. In fact, often the bar of choice as it is appropriately dive-y; fake wood panelling, a pool table, large after work crowd, and a book shelf from which I have already taken 2 books. A treat last night was the lovely homosexual boy on acid as dj. He was good, and after watching basketball and talking to a guy I had met on my first night in Alaska in an Anchorage bar called 'Darwin's Theory', I began to dance. And dance. And dance. Barefoot on the carpet. For a brief and fleeting moment there were other people on my makeshift dancefloor, and I carried a very light and lithe girl named Janelle onto the floor for a song, but by and large I was solo. And I danced, and did a handstand against the wall, and crouched on the pool table (for just a moment, orange toes wrapped around, clinging to the lip, I've heard table dancing gets one kicked out of bars post haste) and danced. Apparently so much so that I elicted the comment from a local to Matt "Be careful in this town when your woman is in heat."

Humph.

This morning my body feels well used, and I am easily reminded of how important it is for me to move in that way.

More to come,
soon.

Today involved recovering from the long bus ride out to Homer from Anchorage, and by bus I mean van, and by ride I mean delivery mission. My favorite of our stops was when we visited a former Iditarod champion to drop off some frozen corn dogs (at least that was the rumor circulating the van) and I got to see a field of huskies atop their plywood dog houses.

On the beautiful drive down the Kenai peninsula I saw a pair of nesting bald eagles. The eagles almost seem a dime a dozen here, and I am far more enchanted with the omnipresent magpie, but on a 5'-6' wide nest of sticks a pair make an impressive site. I did have moose viewing pleasure, though I would swear up and down the first one I spied in the trees was mounted (not in THAT way), but a bit later I saw some nibbling at the brush. Perhaps some mountain sheep, but they were fairly indistinguishable from the snow, so I'm not counting them, really.

But that was yesterday, not today.

Today was settling in, going to the grocery store, cooking on a portable electric 2 burner range, playing on the internet, calling loved ones, and getting my bearings in the small town of Homer. Found the library, which I can have a card to as soon as I get some snail-mail in town. They have a large nature section, I can't wait to check out some books, as well as videos. Perhaps soon I will be able to finish watching the Ken Burns Baseball documentary. If you want to send me something via the USPS do so...
...and now picking out some plankton posters to hang up in my upstairs bedroom. 'Seaweeds on a Rocky Shore' is the first I've chosen. Also drinking a 'Bachelor E.S.B.' courtesy of the Dechutes Brewery, and writeing to you miss julie. How could I do otherwise when you have created this for us.
