Dreaming of Sailors

topic posted Thu, September 1, 2005 - 7:26 AM by  Esperanza
I find that many mornings this week I awake after dreaming of boats, the coast, and sailors.

There was a boat, a sloop hull with no mast, and no tiller being docked by a man and a dog in terribly rough weather. I was on another vessel looking on with horror. I guess he steered by hugging the rudder post? There was one of gathering sailors up throughout a town to go sailing. I found some in the library, some at city hall (which had a trail in the desert leading out the back through one specific door) some outside just lounging in the grass. A morning of a busy harbor and commercial fishing traffic and equiptment. And This morning involved sailors living in my attic, getting ready to see a Clearwater play that I had written, but failed somehow to land the lead creature roll. She got to wear a feather boa headress and dance about the stage. Samantha was wearing blue mascara, eye shadow and liner, complementing nicely her blue bodysuit.

No different from waking life, really.

wow. I have been having dreams of mixing epoxy and half tubes of 4200. I don't believe this is a good sign for a captain of a old wooden boat.

I have a serious question. How much longer should I stay with Clearwater? I have already heard forever...but we already know that is not quite possible if I am to remain sane?

The mornings of the 4th and 5th Captain, I had very graphic dreams involving you. It will be more appropirate to give you the details elsewhere, as the dreams were decidedly, um... friendly. What were you doing those mornings to send me such clear and direct vibes?

Yesterday, in a snack break from painting the house I ate a fortune cookie, a remnant of a yummy dinner of broccoli in garlic sauce. On the back, which I read first it says...

        "Learn Chinese - Painter
        Hua-jia"
        the front reads...

"Bide your time, for sucess is near"

        Lucky numbers 4, 21, 47, 29, 11, 38

        Use it wisely, my son.

Darling captain, listen to your heart. I feel your relationship with Clearwater is not yet through, I'd say one more year, at least, but I do not live in the cage of your ribs. You are invested, you have experience, you care. You have ideas about the future of that little boat, and you get excited about them. You need to take care of yourself, though. (Remain sane??? That's suggesting...) Be certain to go away from the boat and trust that others will take care of her for a little while.

        Most importantly, keep us posted.

          1. Don't leave the boat untill the evil captain is gone.
          2. Make damn sure to replace yourself with someone who can protect and take care of my crew properly in your absence.
          3. Come back to Seattle when you are done with the boat and live here and be my friend and stuff and then Tara will move here too and Jocelyn and Cakes and prolly a bunch more of the goodest folks and then we will all be neighbors and it'll be great and the boat will be fine and we can take turns going back out there to check on her and thwart evil doers and everything will be just dandy.

I like that plan... if I live just north of y'all over there, will ya'll come out and visit me like y'all do over here on the east coast?... oh wait a minute, no one visits me here... sorry, my bad, never mind. (I'm sounding so American now)

The other night I dreamt that i was at my parents house, looking out the back window when i saw this old style tent next to the orchards in the neighbors field. i went to inspect the tent to find out that inside was samantha, two anonymous boys and an anonymous girl. apprently, they were there for the music festival, and all the while i kept wondering "where's fergus?"

in a subsequent but unrelated dream, todd came to my family's christmas.

O! Tom! The tears are streaming from the eyes, accompanied by laughter.

I will assume it was NOT some hippie music festival?

After meeting up with samantha and her cohorts, we did walk up through the field and around the bend, passing more and more tents, as my parents yard was the very far end of the festival. Just as I could start to see the stage though, I awoke. Alas, we can only guess as to the type of festival...perhaps it was Bumbershoot. yeah, i bet it was Bumbershoot.

You know, everytime I am at the boat, I have a dream that I go back to Canada and then am trying to figure out how to get back to the States. It's always a stressful dream and when I wake up in the transom or whatever bunk I'm in, I find myself feeling so relieved that it was just a dream. I mean, I haven't really had all that much trouble getting across the border since that first traumatic experience, now several years ago, but apparently, it still haunts me.

I just talked to Stew, who said that Oates is in Maine with his family.

He may also now have a cell phone; he (Stew) was going to give me the number, but seems to have forgotten.

                                      Hm.
I wonder if Ben Davidson will still be around when we go there.

To confirm, Boates has cellular phone. I repeat, Boates has mobile communication unit. He is on the East coast very briefly, then bound west once more.

Ben is sailing around the world, and I think underway.

Talked to Samantha ever so briefly while she was in Rarotonga. Too briefly, after a very frustrating bout of messages left on her part. But I did get to hear her voice, and she sounds like Samantha; strong, smart, enthusiastic, silly, loving life. Ouch, I miss her. Had fun going to the bar last night to work on a letter to her. Some guy tried to talk to me while I was writing (Yes, I know "What are you writing" is an obvious opener, but sometimes when a girl is writing or reading alone at a bar it is REALLY what she wants to be doing.) and we wound up talking about polyplacophorans and radula, briefly. All he really wanted to know about sailing around the world was if there are waves in the Galapagos.

Shucks, there are a lot of them to keep track of. That's maybe all I know.
  • Pink Ponies in Port Authority

    Fri, September 23, 2005 - 5:55 AM
Last night, after coming out of the underground walking tunnel between PA and the shuttle to Grand Central I saw a boy go by on a pink ponie. So I follow until I see a girl dressed as a peppermint, and then I understand, it is a dance recital. I watch a little of the number before leaving the terminal out onto the Jersey shore.

There sitting on the beach I find a freshly married Samantha. We hug and talk while lying in a bed on the beach, and it is quite a few moments before I remember to say HI to her and ask about the trip.

As we gaze out over a flat grey sea, I see a gander flying over the water dragging a goose behind. I thought she was dead at first, and even thought I could smell decay, but she wasn't. I managed to gather them up without getting my eyes pecked out and brought them into the kitchen. They were tangled together with fishing line and gill netting. I talked to them and they responded. I clipped her free, and then clipped him free of the net, sort of cod-endish, but monofilament. I asked them what they would like to eat, and they wanted mussels. We only had frozen shrimp, so I steamed and peeled them for the geese.

What did you do last night?
